The Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve officially closed its doors recently. Seeing the poppies in bloom had been on my Cali bucket list for several years, but the poppies and I could never aline our blooming schedules. This year, finally, the universe worked with me. I was in town and available and it happened to be the year of the "superbloom."
My friend and I were road tripping for a mini vacation in and around places we had not been outside of Los Angeles, and we had planned on going to the Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve. This was during the winter months in LA and originally the weather forecast was rain which meant that the poppies' pedals would not be open (they need sunlight). But, blooms or no blooms, photos or no photos - it didn't matter to me. I just wanted to see it for myself.
The start of the day was quite overcast, but as we made our way to this valley, the morning fog burned off and what was left was a beautiful sunny day. I could not have been happier. I laid in the poppies, ran through the poppies, and held the poppies. I embraced the entire experience and had the time of my life. There were tons of places to pull off of the road to take in the sea of orange fields. I could not get over what I was seeing. Just sea after sea of orange coated poppy fields. It was truly amazing. Please, add it to your 2018 bucket list!
