This weekend I will be taking a much needed weekend get-a-way with friends! I enjoy roughing it and going off-the-grid... like spending time in a hotel without wifi. I am outdoorsy in the sense that I enjoy a nice glass of wine on a porch or a rooftop. Sometimes, I even sleep with the windows open. But, full on camping in the woods without running water, electricity, or any other human resource I have become accustomed to, well, I wouldn't say it is the stuff my dreams are made of.
It is no secret that I am not the backpacker type. I have done it a lot actually even in some pretty insane environments. I never say "no" to an adventure. I just say "yes" more to hotels with pools and quaint little bed and breakfast stays. Camping is basically spending lots of money to live as if you have no money. I don't get it. In my opinion, it is just a reminder of how great life is when you are not camping.
In the woods, I put more time and effort into cooking meals and keeping my living space clean of dirt and bugs than I do when I am at home. That also doesn't make sense. And, don't even get me started on sleeping outside with wild animals. Sleeping bags... come on... that is nothing but a soft taco to a bear. This is why I run on the treadmill at the gym. Secretly, I am just training for that moment when I have to run faster than the people I am camping with.
Despite all of the aforementioned reservations, I know spending time with fresh air and good laughs will be worth it all. I am (fairly) excited for the adventure that lies ahead. In planning for my weekend in the middle of no where in Ojai, California, I compiled my list of packing essentials with everything from adorable camping socks to a waterproof camera! I thought I would share it in case you too find yourself embarking on a similar excursion!
