Turns out, in Amsterdam, coffee shops aren't coffee shops. What I mean by this is that a "coffee shop" is a weed store most of which don't actually sell coffee. If pot is your thing, then simply search "coffee shop" and you will come across lots of cafe style shops that serve food and drinks and of course weed products. There are over 250 "coffee" shops in the city none of which sell coffee.
I came across Lot Sixty One Coffee and fell in love with this place.
If you are like me and you'd prefer an actual cup of joe in the morning, you will find this a bit more challenging. After many cups of espresso (Screaming Beans is great for espresso) which is not a bad option but certainly not my favorite genre of coffee, I found Lot Sixty One Coffee.
This place is home to delicious pastries and a great cup of pour over so be sure to take the metro a bit outside of the city centre and pick up a cup to go before exploring the city!
