8 WAYS TO BEAT THE IN FLIGHT BLUES

STAYING HEALTHY IN FLIGHT

The only thing I dislike about airplanes is the wonderfully sick people who happen to sit next to you and generously coughs on you until you get sick too. In moments like these, I find myself wanting to turn to the person next to me and say: "Dear fellow passenger, maybe next time get "Airborne" at CVS instead."

Airplanes have a way of being a sickness breeding ground, and I have had my fair share of learning experiences post flight where I am laying in a random bed somewhere and clutching a box of tissue as if it's a Hemsworth brother. Thus, I thought I would share some of my healthy tricks to keeping your immune system boosted!

STAYING HEALTHY IN FLIGHT

1. Apply a face mask…in flight

If I’m on a really long flight I’ll put a face mask and eye cooling pads on while I’m watching a movie. Do I look a little ridiculous? Yes. Do I care. Not at all. I just sit there looking a little weird and cross my fingers in hopes of hydrated skin once on the ground!

2. Bring a stash of vitamin C

I am a huge believer in Vitamin C. I have gone down many a rabbit hole reading about its healing affects. Medical professionals have boasted that even under extremely high dosages, vitamin C was not harmful but rather a great healing agent. I take this little wonder pill daily and bump up dosage in prep for a flight. I am no medical professional, but I do find it works wanders for me!

3. BRING A WATER BOTTLE TO FILL UP IN THE AIRPORT

Because, let’s face it: Those tiny cups they hand on in flight aren’t going to cut it. I can't stress this enough! Water and hydration are EVERYTHING on both short and/or long flights! Bring your own water bottle (this one is collapsable)! And, if it is a lengthy flight, consider buying another bottle in the airport to carry on!

4. NASAL SPRAY ADDICT FOR LIFE

Look, I have the worst sinuses and allergies EVER. And, traveling has a way of inflaming these types of issues in my body. This is the reason I am religious about good health and immune boosters. I am a huge fan of bringing a nail spray on long flights jussssst in case things start to get stuffy!

5. BRING YOUR OWN SNACKS

Every airport is different of course. But, in general, I wouldn't say that airports are health hubs. I NEVER get on a flight empty handed, and I often make my own snacks that I travel with. Check out my recipe for these raw bars that I highly recommend! They are packed with nutrients and protein to tie you over until you land!

6. EAT WELL PRIOR TO FLIGHT

Right before flying is not the time to 1.) Try new foods and/or 2.) Binge on your favorite unhealthy food like pizza. One of the best things to do prior to taking off is spend the previous weeks eating loads of veggies and fruits in an effort to boost your system! EAT YOUR GREENS YA'LL!

7. EAT, DRINK, OR TAKE PROBIOTIC

I am a huge fan of probiotic foods and supplements. When at home, I drink liquid probiotic daily. Abroad, I ingest probiotic (50 Billion or greater) in a pill form and do my best to find greek yogurt! You would be surprised how many airports carry greek yogurt now and it is both a great snack and a healthy boost!

8. NO CAFFEINE/ NO ALCOHOL

I am all for a good cup of coffee and/or a glass of whiskey neat (my drink of choice). But, in flight, both are a solid NO MAM for me. Both caffeine and alcohol dehydrate the body even more than is already happening during the flight. Staying away from these cocktails and other sugary drinks are a must in flight! Water! Water! Water!
